Using the Google Keyword Planner Tool:

There are a good many SEO research tools out there. However, since it has 85% of the UK's search traffic we may as well use Google's very own FREE Keyword Planner. Even though it's designed around Google's Pay Per Click advertising it is perfect for our SEO research too.

The first thing to remember is that the ideal keyphrase should:

  1. Be relevant to what your business offers
  2. Enjoy relatively low levels of competition
  3. Enjoy relatively high levels of monthly searches

In short, we can see that optimising for longer and more detailed phrases can often be more worthwhile, and profitable, than optimising for the shorter, more 'generic', phrases. We can also see that keyphrase research is an essential task. So don't skimp on it.
